KUAC TV brings home Emmy gold for the third year in a row
KUAC TV producers need to clear off another shelf as they add to their gold cache and bring home television's top honors to the University of Alaska Fairbanks for the third consecutive year. The station won in the promotion/program/campaign category of the Emmy Awards at the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Northwest Chapter award ceremony held June 7, 2008 in Seattle. The station received three nominations this year.
Producer Claudia Clark, producer Deb Lawton and writer/editor Aaron Elterman were each honored with an Emmy award in the promotion/program/campaign category for their KUAC TV production of "AlaskaOne Image Spots," a series of poignant stories where viewers share their commitment to public television. AlaskaOne viewers featured in these award-winning spots include Gary Bender, Ted Fathauer, Rob Jordan, Chuck Lemke, Jill Marshall, Herta Prechtel and Grace Schaible.
Other Emmy nods in the informational/instructional - feature/segment category included two-time Emmy-award winner Michael Letzring for his production and editing work on the St. Elias Tectonics and Erosion Project, also known as STEEP, created for the UAF Geophysical Institute. The third Emmy nomination this year was received in the same category with Aaron Elterman as editor, with Deb Lawton producing and Michael Letzring on camera for a University of Alaska International Polar Year story.
KUAC TV executive producer and UAF associate professor Claudia Clark attended the event. "Winning three years in a row is an honor and a tribute to the talent found at KUAC," says Clark. "I'm so proud of our television production team and the level of programming they unfailingly produce."
This is the fourth year KUAC has earned Emmy-award nominations. Aaron Elterman, now a three-time Emmy-award winner, was honored last year in the individual achievement category. Michael Letzring and Deb Lawton were each honored last year with an Emmy award in the cultural/historical documentary category for the KUAC TV production, "The 49th Star," which tells the story of Alaska's struggle for statehood. Aaron Elterman and Michael Letzring brought home an Emmy in 2006 for the promotional spot for "The 49th Star." KUAC was also nominated in 2006 for its travel series, "Anywhere, Alaska," and in 2005 for its Alaska heath series, "Vital Signs."
